The entire club is thrilled to congratulate Stuart Sim on attaining his 3rd Dan, a milestone that speaks to his unwavering determination and commitment.

Stuart’s journey to this achievement has been far from ordinary, having faced significant challenges along the way. After being off the mats for some time due to an irregular heartbeat, Stuart’s path to recovery and progression in his martial arts journey is truly inspirational.

Following his diagnosis, Stuart decided to focus on personal development, determined not to let his health setback deter his passion for martial arts. With the invaluable support of his club, including his close friend and coach, Gordon McCathie, Stuart turned his attention to mastering the technical aspects of judo. This period of study and reflection paid off in remarkable ways.

Gordon said "It's always challenging to stay mentally strong when an injury or health issue forces you away from training and doing what you love. We set realistic goals that kept Stuart's progression on track and helped him stay focused. This grade means so much to him, and I couldn't be happier for his achievement."

Only eight weeks after undergoing heart surgery, Stuart’s dedication shone brightly as he successfully became a Level 1 in three key kata forms: Katame no kata, Nage no kata, and Itsutsu no Kata. Not only did he excel in these areas, but he also passed the technical requirements for his 3rd Dan over a tough weekend of testing, an achievement that stands as a testament to his resilience and commitment.

Stuart’s success is a source of immense pride for everyone at the club. His forward-thinking mindset and positive attitude in the face of adversity highlights everything we, as a club try ot tesch our students. Stuart’s journey reminds us of the power of determination, discipline, and the unwavering support of a strong community.

We are all incredibly proud of you, Stuart. Your achievement is well deserved, and we look forward to seeing your continued growth both on and off the mats. Congratulations once again on this incredible accomplishment!

– From all your friends and fellow judoka at the club.
