Christopher George: From Water Polo to Judo Black Belt and Commonwealth Games Contender

Chris George from Trinidad and Tobago in Aberdeen

Christopher George, an elite athlete from Trinidad and Tobago, has made an impressive transition from national-level water polo to competitive Judo.

Since relocating to Aberdeen, Scotland, in 2013, he has trained consistently at Aberdeen Judo Club, Ultimate Judo, and Carlson Gracie Aberdeen at Aberdeen Martial Arts Group..

Christopher began his Judo journey in 2012 at Queen’s Park Judo Club in Trinidad and Tobago, following a 12-year tenure on Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior and Junior National Water Polo Teams. Despite dabbling in Judo competitions as early as 2009, it was in 2012 that he fully committed to the sport with formal training.

With a martial arts background that includes a Nidan (2nd Dan) in Shotokan Karate and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Christopher found that Judo struck the perfect balance between tradition, skill, and competition. It quickly became his new passion.

Arriving in Scotland as a 3rd Kyu (green belt), Christopher's growth was accelerated thanks to the mentorship of Jason Moore of Aberdeen Judo Club and Gordon McCathie of Ultimate Judo. Their coaching helped him become a more technical, efficient, and strategic athlete. Under their guidance, he achieved his black belt in May 2014 through line-up grading.

Now preparing to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico, Christopher is steadily progressing toward his goal of Olympic qualification.

Ultimate Judo and Aberdeen Judo Club are proud to support him and wish him the very best in his pursuit of excellence.
