2013 finished on a high for the club with the Head Coach of our Aberdeen club Gordon McCathie being named Young Person's Coach of the Year for Scotland 2013. This is the second award Gordon has received from the Governing Body of Judo in Scotland making him the first coach to do so.
The award recognises the work that the team is doing to promote the sport in Edinburgh and Aberdeen amongst youngsters. Although the award has Gordon's name on it, he certainly believes that it is an award for the close-knit team here at Ultimate Judo.
Gordon said this of the award " It is a true honour to be named as Scotlands Young Person's Coach of the Year 2013. The club has continued to grow and offer opportunities for all our students. We have continued providing what in my eyes is one of the top competitions in Scotland each year, brought the world's best talent to Scotland for masterclass events, and have setup Pathways for our students to progress both competitively in the sport and just as importantly educationally with our new Academy program. This has been a massive team effort and the award, although in my name, is very much a team award."
Gordon was awarded the prize by Judo Scotland Board member, local coach, and friend James McBeath from Aboyne Judo Club and Aberdeen Judo Club.
