This prestigious award is given annually by JudoScotland to the coach who has made the most significant contribution to the development of judo at grassroots level in Scotland. Gordon was recognised for his outstanding commitment to expanding access to the sport, particularly through his work in the north east of Scotland and Stornoway — areas that have traditionally had limited opportunities for judo development.
This marks the first time a coach from the Aberdeen area has received this honour, and it stands as a testament to the growing presence and impact of judo in the region, much of which has been driven by Gordon’s tireless efforts and vision.
While this recognition is a major milestone for Ultimate Judo, we view it as a springboard for even greater growth. Plans are already underway to expand our network of sessions across new areas of Aberdeen, with the goal of further increasing participation in this exciting Olympic sport.
As part of the celebration, Mr Berry also led a masterclass with the Ultimate Judo performance squad, offering our athletes the chance to train under one of Scotland’s most respected judo figures. The event was covered by the Press and Journal newspaper and provided an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance — a rare opportunity to learn directly from a local judo legend.
